By: Julia Bonguange - Jan 5th 2024

As a child, I quickly discovered that I enjoy illustrating. I was aware that I inherited from a generational blessing; witnessing my family members creating art throughout their lives. Before I knew my passion, my artistic skills were activating through specific stages in my life through arts and craft sessions in primary school, to art class in secondary school and also through my pass time at home. I have also expressed my creativity by drawing with pencil as a medium, creating detailed realistic style pieces, which I continue to do so to this day. Usually with music or a podcast in my ears and all my supplies organized in front of me, I’m good to go. Currently I am expanding my drawing abilities through drawing a variety of wild animals such as lions and tigers since I am drawn to their fur textures. In the past I would always describe myself as a self-taught visual artist, but the more I drew, the more my art pieces left me speechless as I stared at the end results, learning that God is with me when I create art.

YOUR GIFT IS NOT MEANT TO BE HIDDEN

In the past I used to draw private personal concepts that express my mental state to bring healing to myself. Eventually I was propelled to showcase my art through social media because I received the revelation that keeping my gift to myself is selfish and that the world needs to be inspired by my drawings. I believe that my gift is not meant to be hidden to just heal myself, but to showcase publicly to heal others. As for myself, drawing is precious time connecting with God, as He guides me through every difficult or easy steps. It’s more than just a pass time hobby… drawing is a dialog between myself and God. I acknowledge that I’m not alone when I create. God, the creator of ALL things makes Himself known through using me as His instrument. He is simply the ORIGINAL artist.

Collaborating with God means letting go of my perspectives, expectations and assumptions of the outcome of my project and trusting Him through the journey with patience. It also means that He’s in the center of every project concept that I present to the world. Seeing the drawings transform in front of my eyes is beautiful to witness each and every time. As artists, if we look closely at the intricacies and details of our art pieces, we can truly identify that our gift is given from above.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”

 ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭ESV
